August 25, 2016 – Even as temperatures soar into the mid-90s, Roads Services crews are busy completing important repairs on the 78-year-old Berrydale Overcrossing on Kent-Black Diamond Road south of Highway 18 near Covington, Auburn, Kent and Black Diamond.
Trees provided welcome shade to the workers as they removed damaged pavement and replaced worn, rotting timber planks with fresh wood and asphalt, which will keep the bridge in safe working condition until funding is available to replace it.
Berrydale Overcrossing has been in service since 1938, and now serves about 5,000 vehicles each day.
The structure crosses railroad tracks operated by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, and helps keep both freight and vehicle traffic moving in this area of south King County.
The portion of Kent-Black Diamond road between 158th Avenue SE to SE 290th Street that was closed during repairs is expected to reopen to traffic on Friday, August 26 by 5 p.m.
Update (8/26 2:45 p.m.): Berrydale Overcrossing /Kent Black Diamond Rd SE is back open.
