King County is proposing to reduce the speed limit on a 1.25-mile segment of 84th Avenue S in the near future. After receiving public comments about speeding within the Bryn Mawr Elementary School zone on 84th Avenue S near Renton, the County decided to conduct a speed limit evaluation to analyze the issue. On the basis of prevailing speeds, number of intersecting streets and driveways, collision data and posted speed limits on parallel streets with the same function, the County determined the speed limit should be reduced from 35 mph to 30 mph. The 35 mph zone is indicated in the above map by the red line.
If approved, the speed reduction is expected to take place by the end of February 2019. Area residents will be contacted about the proposed change by postcard. Local agencies, the Renton Reporter, and the general public will also be notified.
Public comment is being accepted on this speed limit reduction proposal from January 8-22, 2019.
